Look Ma, I'm Flying!

Last night, high on a mountain in Fonfria, the fog rolled in - wisps and strands blown by the breeze. It felt like cool clean smoke. We walked down a steep path to a stone building with a thatched roof. There were long tables set in a crescent shape for the 40 or so pilgrims gathered for dinner. We ate a vegetable soup with potatoes, beans and spinach in a hearty broth. The second course was tender chunks of beef and peas and rice.  Santiago cake, which is a local specialty made with almonds was dessert. Everyone likes to sit by the Mormons because they get to drink our portion of red wine. We sat by a nice older couple from Canada. Les has done the camino 12 times! He was here on 9/11 and told us about how everything just stopped. Everyone stopped walking and just talked all day. People from so many countries all stunned and stopped from their purpose.

This morning we were immediately amazed by the scene. We were walking above the clouds. The hills were green and lush and between them the clouds lay in soft blankets. We walked and stopped, walked and stopped. We couldn't get enough of it.

It made me think of my flying dreams, which always take me above the clouds. We walked for miles, feeling like we were in heaven.
As the road went down we made our way into the clouds, it felt so mysterious.

Today I feel like I climbed down out of heaven. I feel a little sad.
